A LLANELLI teenager is fighting for his life in intensive care following a road traffic accident which brought the town to a standstill.
Family members are holding a bedside vigil for 17-year-old Jay Roper of Coedcae, who is in a critical condition after a collision between his moped and a Renault Clio on the junction of Old Castle Road at 3.20pm on Thursday. (23)

The former Copperworks, Lakefield and Coedcae school pupil was airlifted to Heath Hospital in Cardiff by the Wales Air Ambulance, which landed outside Llanelli’s Ty Elwyn council buildings watched by hundreds of onlookers.
Police Inspector Mark Davies said a 55-year-old man has been arrested and bailed on suspicion of dangerous driving in relation to the incident pending further investigations.
“Inquiries are continuing into the cause of this accident,” said Inspector Davies.
“The 17-year-old moped rider currently remains in a critical condition in hospital.
“Meanwhile, a 55-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been bailed.

“If anyone has information which could help our inquiries, they can contact police on 101.”
One of Jay’s friends, Amy Jones, said everyone was praying the teenager recovers.
Amy said: “It is really tragic and I felt sick when I heard about it.
“I have watched Jay grow up through Lakefield, Copperworks and Coedcae schools. We are really quite close.
“I went down to the scene just after it happened.
“Everyone is really scared for him and hoping he will fight through it.
“Jay is so friendly and will always burst out with a joke, he has a really fun and outgoing personality. We are all praying for him and that he gets better.”
Well-wishers have also posted messages on social networking website Twitter, using the hash tag Pray for Jay.
Dannii Butler Jenkins tweeted: “Horrific accident in Llanelli. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jay Roper. Stay strong.”
Another person tweeted: “Jay Roper is in hospital whilst we’re in our beds tonight.
“What an awesome guy! Get well soon.”
