HOOKSETT, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire state police say a man and a woman have died in a small plane crash near Interstate 93 in Hooksett.

Police say the single-engine Beechcraft hit a light pole alongside I-93 northbound after 1 p.m. Thursday, sending it crashing into the woods next to the highway.

State Police Lt. Chris Wagner said one of the two was found dead inside the plane. The other was ejected, “and was some distance from the plane.”

The tail of the plane is resting on the shoulder of the interstate. The plane itself was covered by a blue tarp.

Federal Aviation Administration investigators were en route.

Wagner said the plane was traveling in a southerly direction when the wing clipped the light pole. At least half of the light pole is above tree level.

One lane of traffic was open at I-93 northbound, but police were asking travelers to seek alternate routes to avoid a rush-hour backup. Police said around 4:15 p.m. that the I-293 southbound F.E. Everett Turnpike southbound ramp had re-opened.
