Traffic On SR-163 Backed Up Due To 2 Crashes



Crashes Occurred On Both Sides Of SR-163, Near I-8

SAN DIEGO — Traffic on state Route 163 near Interstate 8 was backed up on Friday due to two separate crashes.

The first crash occurred at about 4:20 p.m. on northbound SR-163 near the connector to eastbound I-8, according to California Highway Patrol’s CAD website.

The motorcyclist was reported down in the lanes after a crash involving a white sedan. The rider was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the CHP and fire officials. The transition ramp was closed following the crash, the CHP said.

The second crash occurred just before 4:40 p.m. on southbound SR-163 near the connector to westbound I-8 and involved seven vehicles. It is unclear if anyone was injured.
