The northbound lanes of Interstate 77 in Wythe County were closed after a wreck Thursday morning.
Both northbound lanes of Interstate 77 in Wythe County were closed after a Thursday morning tractor-trailer wreck, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The wreck, which involved two tractor-trailers, occurred at mile marker 25 about 10:20a.m., VDOT spokeswoman Michelle Earl said. One of the tractor-trailers caught fire, Earl said.
The crash backed up traffic Thursday afternoon as vehicles were routed off the interstate at Exit 24 while crews worked to remove the wrecks. At one point, traffic was backed up 10 miles.
First Sgt. K.S. McCall of the Virginia State Police said one tractor-trailer hit the rear of another. He said that the driver that rear-ended the other was charged and that there were no life-threatening injuries.
