Teens still in hospital after Clearwater plane crash

Two Illinois teenagers remain at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa after a single-engine plane crash in Clearwater that killed the father of one of the girls.

Katherine Bronken and Keyana Linbo, both 15 and from Round Lake, Ill., sustained serious injuries.

Officials said the pilot, 53-year-old Jeffrey Bronken, died at the scene.

The hospital has not provided an update on the girls’ conditions.

Authorities said the Piper PA-28 left the Chicago area Friday night, bound for St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport. The plane crashed early Saturday on McMullen-Booth Road near Union Street, about seven miles north of the airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it received a radio call from the plane indicating possible fuel problems.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
