A Tampa man accepted a plea agreement Thursday and was sentenced to 15 years in prison in a DUI crash that killed a 5-year-old girl last year.
Rolando Rojas, 52, also received five years’ probation for slamming into other cars before crashing his pickup truck into a minivan in which four children and two adults were riding at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Bloomingdale Avenue in Riverview.
Lilly Mills died a day after the crash.
Rolando initially was charged with two counts of driving under the influence – serious bodily injury, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. When Mills died, one of those charges was upgraded to driving under the influence – manslaughter, a patrol spokesman said.
Rojas was not seriously injured.
