SANFORD – 

The Florida Highway Patrol is no longer looking for the registered owner of a car involved in a deadly hit-and-run early Sunday morning on Interstate 4, but that person is not talking.

Investigators said they were looking for Victor Salinas because he might know who was driving a red Saturn that lists him as the registered owner when it was involved in the accident.

FHP said Salinas hired a lawyer and is not speaking with investigators.

The crash happened just after 1 a.m. on I-4 at State Road 46 and closed the road for more than six hours.

Troopers said a Saturn four-door car was traveling in the center lane, when for an unknown reason, the driver lost control and went into the left lane.

Forty-two-year-old Keenan Huff, a motorcyclist from Brightwood, Va., was hit by the car and thrown, and then run over by a van.

FHP said the Saturn left the scene, but was found about a half-mile away along the side of the interstate.

A Lake Mary police officer, first to respond to the scene of the crash, was hit by another car, according to troopers.

The officer had stepped out of his cruiser, which was blocking the left lane with its lights on, when a Volkswagen Jetta plowed into it.

FHP said the officer and other driver, 41-year-old Tracey Flood were not injured.

Flood was ticketed for careless driving.

The Florida Highway Patrol says troopers are processing evidence to move forward with the criminal investigation.

It is still unclear who was driving the Saturn.

TAMPA, Fla. – On June, 14 2011, Robert Armstrong died at just 19-years-old. He worked on an I-75 construction site. Early that morning, a truck veered out of control and slammed into him.

According to Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Gaskins, the construction crashes continue 2-and-a-half years later, especially acute around projects like the I-4 Connector and with recent work begun on I-275.

“Those kinds of projects frequently throw changes at drivers on a daily basis,” Sgt. Gaskins said. “There’s no room for error. There’s no margin for error. That’s what it amounts to.”

On the Crosstown Expressway, cars pass about 300 workers, separated by just four feet.

“Four feet, in a matter of seconds, and somebody’s dead,” said I-4 Connector Project Administrator Sherman Johnson. “We’ve had plenty of near-misses where people have been driving through speeding.”

So, ABC Action News took action with Sgt. Gaskins inside the construction areas. Drivers had a clear view of our patrol car on the Crosstown.

Within minutes, inside a 45mph zone, a car sped by beside a dozen workers.

“Passed me in a marked control car, on the shoulder, at 61mph was his highest speed,” Sgt. Gaskins said.

The violations continued, especially when we hid behind a row of trees.

“I can see 4 signs that say 50mph and he’s traveling 66,” Sgt. Gaskins said, pointing to another vehicle. “Vehicles are hitting, several times a week, crash-attenuators, guard rails, barrier walls.”

Gaskins sees at least two accidents every week on the Crosstown alone. Statewide, 2012 witnessed 1,624 construction zone crashes, ending in 826 injuries and 14 deaths, many preventable by slowing down.

“Then we can all get home. I’ve got kids just like you’ve got kids,” Johnson said. “I want to get home and see mine also.”

It’s a chance Armstrong never got. The day he died, he was on the side of I-75 in order to remove a sign that tracks speed.

According to police, the driver who crossed the median was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver who was hit was transported to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

The crash caused a traffic mess for drivers for several hours following the crash. The area has since been cleared and traffic is back to normal.

Four people died in separate traffic crashes in Houston late Sunday night and early Monday morning.

In the most recent wreck, a man died when he slammed into a parked ambulance about 4:30 a.m. Monday in the 2400 block of Holman near St. Charles just south of downtown, said Jay Evans, a spokesman with the Houston Fire Department. Six other people were injured in the crash.

Evans said an HFD ambulance was stopped outside a home to pick up a man who had chest pains when the driver of a sport utility vehicle hit it head-on. The crash forced the ambulance into another HFD emergency vehicle that was parked near the ambulance.

The SUV driver, whose name has not been released, died at the scene. Five firefighters at the scene had minor injuries and were rushed to Memorial Hermann hospital. Their conditions were not released, but Evans said they were all expected to be fine. The most severely injured firefighter had a broken right leg.

Evans said the patient the ambulance had initially been dispatched to pick up was taken to the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center for his heart condition. The man’s daughter, who was sitting in the front seat of the ambulance at the time of the crash, was rushed to Memorial Hermann hospital. She had minor injuries.

HFD medical staff was attending to the man with the chest pains in the back of the ambulance when the driver of a silver Dodge Journey hit the ambulance, according to the Houston Police Department. Police said the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed and there were no indications the driver tried to stop before the crash. He died while he was still sitting behind the steering wheel. He was not wearing a seat belt and was alone in the SUV. The speed limit on the road is 30 mph. Police said the emergency lights on the ambulance were engaged at the time of the wreck.

In an unrelated earlier crash, two men died when they slammed into the back of stalled SUV on Interstate 45 near the north Sam Houston Parkway in north Houston about 1:15 a.m. Monday, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said a blue Ford Expedition was traveling southbound on the North Freeway when it stalled. The driver of a white Volkswagen Pointer, also traveling southbound on the freeway, smashed into the rear of the SUV.

The 27-year-old passenger in the Volkswagen died at the scene. The 29-year-old driver was rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victims’ names have not been released.

The driver of the Expedition was not hurt. The freeway was shut down for a few hours after the crash, but it was later reopened.

A 34-year-old man died and his passenger was injured in a crash about 11 p.m. Sunday in the 12400 block of the south Sam Houston Parkway service near U.S. 59 in southwest Houston, police said.

Police said the driver of a gray Nissan Maxima was traveling on the Southwest Freeway service road at a high rate of speed when he entered the service road for the South Sam Houston Parkway and slammed into a concrete retaining wall.

The driver, whose name has not been released, died at the scene. His passenger was rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital. Police did not release his condition but said his injuries were non-life threatening. His name was not released.

NEW YORK One person is dead after a car fell off a lift at a parking garage in Lower Manhattan, according to police.

CBS Station WCBS reports the accident occurred at an Icon parking garage on Barclay Street just after 8 a.m. Monday.

Emergency workers said a parking attendant was killed when an SUV rolled off the lift and crashed six feet to the ground, crushing the worker as he was standing underneath.

Shaken family members arrived at the scene escorted by police officers, as co-workers and customers stood in disbelief.

Customers told WCBS that the victim was a warm and friendly part of the Icon garage.

Gerard Marini, who said he has parked at the garage every day for five years, was stunned to learn the attendant – who had become a personal friend – had been killed in a tragic accident.

“It’s crazy. When I couldn’t get down the block this morning to park the car, I do have his cell number on me and I was going to call him to see if there was any way he could get me into the garage later or something,” Marini told WCBS correspondent Kathryn Brown.

Police have not yet released the victim’s name, but many said he was a hard worker with a big heart who loved baseball.

“It’s hard to believe and I thought, ‘Not him,’” Omar Marinavic told WCBS correspondent Paul Murnane. “I feel for him and his family.”

Investigators said it’s too early to know exactly what caused the car to crash off the lift.

3 dead in Conn. holiday weekend highway crashes

MIDDLETOWN (AP) — Connecticut State Police say fatalities and highway accidents were up during the long Thanksgiving weekend over last year.

Police said Monday that three people were killed and 410 accidents were reported.

Last year, two were killed and 389 accidents were reported.

For the holiday weekend that began at midnight Wednesday and ended at midnight Sunday, 62 motorists were charged with DUI and more than 1,600 speeding tickets were issued.

State police also cited drivers for more than 2,800 hazardous moving violations and 85 people were ticketed for failing to wear seat belts.

Fatal accidents were reported on Route 8 in Beacon Falls, Interstate 691 in Southington and I-91 in North Haven.

During last year’s Thanksgiving weekend, troopers issued 1,376 speeding tickets and charged 65 motorists with DUI.

The Global Associated Press is the site responsible for the hoaxing and has put out so many of these foul lies, I’m quite surprised people are still falling for it! Yet they are, so to set the record straight, I’ve pulled out my original story on the death hoax for your reading pleasure. Adam Sandler Dead In Snowboard Accident: Switzerland Hoax Takes Third Victim This Week 

Okay people, let’s just get one thing clear right now: Adam Sandler is ALIVE which more than I can say for my humor, or my hoax-ridden fingertips. It seems as soon as I finish covering one, another one pops up – kind of like those little gopher games in Chuck E Cheese…. But anyway, I digress.

So, you’ve heard it before, twice now. Word for word. Just take out Charlie Sheen and Channing Tatum’s name, insert Adam Sandler’s, and what you have is the third Switzerland Snowboard hoax to take social media by storm this week.

So who’s starting these incredibly taxing and terrifying tricks? None other than Global Associated News, a jokester website well known for its hoax starters, and the same folks responsible for the others 2 snowy slaughterings.

Now, not that I’m really in love with these hoaxes as it is, but you would think, at the very least, they could give these guys a unique death scenario. I guess though, if you get your kicks off of terrifying the ignorant, originality is probably not high on your priority list.

If you didn’t hear it the first two times, here is the crock of crap Global Associated News has been feeding thousands of fans, causing them to believe 3 much-loved actors have fallen, who are in fact alive and kicking, and most of them on sets of upcoming movies.

“Witnesses indicate that Adam Sandler lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed,” the report reads. “Adam Sandler was air lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital, however, it is believed that the actor died instantly from the impact of the crash. The actor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death.”

So there you have it. Died in a crash and no alcohol to be found. Boy could I use a drink…

I don’t exactly understand how these things get so far out of control. I mean really folks, a simple Google and you’ve got the knowledge! We don’t have to “tweet” everything we believe…or create a Facebook page in honor of our ignorance! This, however, is exactly what keeps happening time and again. Adam Sandler’s death is no exception. Right now on Facebook, 56,000 people in counting have lit the proverbial “like” candle in honor of a star whose time has not in fact come.

I’m sorry if this post doesn’t hold all the jaunty enthusiasm mine typically do. I think Twitter and its hoaxes have killed it.

As to the actor himself, this video shows about what I imagine Sandler might feel about being killed off, for the second time, in this same mundane fashion.

2 dead after wrong-way crash on I-695

BALTIMORE (AP) — Authorities in Maryland said a woman and a 3-year-old child are dead and two others injured after a wrong-way crash on I-695.

A Maryland Transportation Authority Police spokesman said 21-year-old Victoria DeAngelo of Dundalk entered the outer loop of 695 near exit 1 driving in the wrong direction Sunday night around 10 a.m. She then crashed into an SUV.

DeAngelo and a 3-year-old in the SUV, Lily Kelley, died. Kelley’s mother, Kimberly Taylor, who was driving the SUV, and her 2-month-old sister were taken to a hospital. Taylor is in serious condition and her 2-month-old, Mackenzie Kelley, is in stable condition.

Two Barry County teens are dead following separate holiday crashes.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a Fairview teen was killed when the 2006 Honda Rancher ATV he was driving rolled down a hill and came to rest on the driver, Jet Lee, 13.

The crash occurred at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22, on private property located west of Highway 37 approximately three and a half miles north of Purdy.

Lee was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital in Springfield about three hours after the crash. This is Troop D’s 87th fatality crash for 2012.

Other wrecks

* A Golden teen is dead following a crash that occurred at 10 p.m. on Wednesday. Nov. 21, on Highway J, a half mile west of Golden. The crash occurred when the driver of a Mitsubishi Eclipse, Austin C. Turner, 19, of Golden, ran off the left side of the highway, struck a tree and caught fire. Charles McManus, Barry County assistant coroner, pronounced Turner dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt. A passenger in the vehicle, Wilian A. Marroquin, 17, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Berryville, Ark., with minor injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.

* An Aurora man sustained minor injuries in a crash that occurred at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22, on Highway 39 about five miles south of Shell Knob. The crash occurred when the driver of a 2007 Chevrolet pickup, James D. McCullah, 63, of Aurora, ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree. McCullah was taken to Mercy Hospital in Aurora. He was wearing a seat belt.

* An Exeter man was injured in a single-vehicle crash that occurred at 3:57 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, on Highway 76 in Ridgley. The crash occurred when the driver of a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban, Daniel J. Allen, 28, of Exeter, ran off the right side of the highway and overturned. Allen was airlifted to Cox Hospital South in Springfield with serious injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt.

* Two people were injured following a crash that occurred at 2:15 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, on Interstate 44, three miles east of Mt. Vernon. The crash occurred when the driver of a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, Hunter Smith, 21, of Carthage, ran off the right side of the interstate and struck an embankment and overturned. Smith was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to Mercy Springfield Hospital with moderate injuries. A passenger in the vehicle, Victor Bustamonte, 31, of Springfield suffered serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Springfield Hospital. Bustamonte was not wearing a seat belt.
