‘Redneck’ Road Rage Video Leads to Arrest

A video shot by an unidentified female driver who was being tailgated by a driver in a black Ford pickup truck led Florida State Troopers to arrest Jeffrey Travis White, 33, of Tampa for careless driving, failing to wear a seat belt and for leaving the scene of a crash.

The You Tube video, released by the Florida Highway Patrol, is titled, “Redneck Road Rage/Instant Karma.” It captures the driver tailgating and eventually passing the unidentified car as they traveled southbound on US Highway 41, just north of Gibsonton Drive.

The tailgater passed the driver, making an obscene hand gesture, pulled in front of her car and then lost control of his truck, spinning across the median and northbound lanes – eventually hitting a light pole.

The Ford truck driver fled the scene of the accident on March 24. But he was identified using the video and arrested two days later. White has been released on a $250 cash bond.

You can watch the entire incident below. Caution – the video does show an obscene hand gesture.

In addition to sending a link to the video, the FHP sent a brochure warning about Road Rage and how to avoid interacting with an aggressive driver.

There was no comment on the driver who videotaped the entire incident while driving. The video was posted on You Tube under the name of “Florida Driver.” That’s where the driver explained that she couldn’t pull over because of trucks in the right lane and refused to speed on the wet roads.

She wrote she only started videotaping the truck after three minutes of tailgating, adding:

I never brake checked him, and in fact until I watched the video after the accident I didn’t even know he shot a bird at me because I wasn’t looking at him at all, I was paying attention to the road while holding the phone up with my right hand. I’ve recorded circumstances like this before, catching idiots doing stupid things, but never ever had this happen.
