Police in Michigan have confirmed the identities of a mother and two children whose deaths may be connected a fiery crash in Indiana.
Investigators said Linda Vanderlinden, 34, and her sons Julien, 7, and Matthew, 4, were stabbed to death inside a home in Michigan’s Van Buren Township. Linda Vanderlinden had also been strangled, police said.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Michael Vanderlinden killed his family before driving to Indiana, where he died in a fiery head-on crash while going the wrong way on I-94 near Michigan City.
Michael and Linda Vanderlinden had a troubled marriage, the newspaper reported. It included a suicide attempt, an argument in which Vanderlinden grabbed his wife and pleas from Vanderlinden asking his wife not to leave him.
Investigators haven’t determined the exact timeline regarding the killings, the newspaper said.
