Pedestrian in critical condition after train crash in Kissimmee

A pedestrian was in critical condition late Wednesday after being hit by a freight train near downtown Kissimmee.

The man or boy was wearing headphones and walking on the tracks near Smith and Vine streets when he was hit about 3 p.m. Wednesday, police said. Vine Street also is known as U.S. Highway 192.

The pedestrian, whose identity was not released, was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Vine Street was closed for more than two hours between Main Street and Michigan Avenue while authorities investigated.

Police have not said why the pedestrian was on the tracks.
