One person died and another person was flown to a nearby hospital by medical helicopter after a car crossed the median into oncoming vehicles on Interstate 495 in Methuen late this afternoon, according to State Police.
The crash occurred on the southbound side of I-495 near Exit 47. Both sides of the highway were closed at one point after the five-car crash, officials said, but the State Department of Transportation said in a tweet at 4:39 p.m. that the northbound lanes had reopened.
The crash is still under investigation, State Police said. No further information was immediately available.
