One dead after rollover crash on I-84 overpass

MERIDIAN — One person is dead after a rollover crash near the Ten Mile Road overpass this afternoon.

Idaho State Police say the crash was reported around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators say a 1986 Toyota 4-Runner was eastbound on the off-ramp when the truck failed to stop at the intersection with Ten Mile Road. The vehicle crossed all lanes of traffic on Ten Mile Road and went off the eastbound on-ramp. It launched about 20 to 30 yards down a steep hillside and landed on its top.

The Ada County coroner says Betty Jean Stapleton, 83, of Nampa, died at the scene. Blunt force trauma is listed as the cause of death. She was a passenger in the vehicle.

Police say the male driver was injured and taken to a local hospital. His name and condition have not been released.

Both occupants were wearing seatbelts.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
