COVE CITY, N.C. – A new guardrail will soon go up around a bend that was the site of a tragic accident last November.
Highway Patrol says Doug Landon fell asleep and drove off Highway 55 around a curve, near Turkey Quarter Creek Road and into a culvert.
Landon died in the accident but his daughter Jordan survived for two days until people found them.
Residents of the area say it was just the latest accident and a guardrail needs to be put in.
“Now we finally have a date of Sept the 15th, should be the complete date for us to have our guardrail before Turkey Quarter Creek Road,” said Tyker Gonzales, trying to get guardrail. “I know a guardrail could have kept Doug alive. It would have woken him up anyway.”
A spokesperson for the DOT says that after every deadly accident they investigate to see if there needs to be improvements to the road.
And in this case they say there was.
