A car crossing the median on Interstate 495 in Methuen triggered a fatal crash this evening that forced police to shut down the highway backing traffic up for about 8 miles.
State police tweeted this evening that there is one dead, a second victim has been MedFlighted as the investigation is “ongoing.” Yet, they added the “trigger for crash was car crossing median into oncoming cars.”
Initial reports indicate five vehicles, including a tractor-trailer truck, were involved.
State police confirmed that traffic is backed up “for miles” and that the southbound lane of the road will be closed for hours.
