COLUMBUS, Ohio –
A man is in custody after police say he led them on a high speed chase Wednesday morning.
At about 4:12 a.m. Whitehall Police officer John Buerkel attempted to make a traffic stop on a van at the corner of E. Broad Street and S. Hamilton Road.
Police say the driver fled south toward Interstate 70.
During the pursuit which reached speeds upwards of 100 m.p.h., the evading driver attempted to turn onto the I-70 westbound ramp from S. Hamilton Road.
The driver, unable to negotiate the turn at a high rate of speed, crashed into the guardrail.
Police say the driver was arrested on scene for driving with a suspended license as well at multiple other traffic warrants.
The driver was the sole occupant of the van.
The ramp from S. Hamilton Road to I-70 West was closed for about an hour until the van was towed.
The driver was later taken to Mount Carmel East with minor injuries.
