Cape Town Mayor, Patricia de Lille, has blamed what she calls a campaign by the ANC Youth League to make the Western Cape ungovernable for last night’s bus crash in Khayelitsha on the Cape Flats.
A Golden Arrow bus driver died and five people were seriously injured when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into six shacks. It’s alleged the bus driver was distracted when the vehicle was pelted with stones by protesters.
De Lille and Premier Helen Zille have laid charges of intimidation against the league. De Lille has sent her condolences to the injured.
“A Golden Arrow bus was stoned, and the bus driver died and the bus veered into a house and six structures. This is as a direct result of people who are calling on Cape Town to be ungovernable and by stoning the police and by stoning our buses and so I want to pass my condolences to the families of the people that died last night,” says de Lille.
