Crash closes southbound U.S. 85 near Fort Lupton for about an hour; no one …

A semitrailer truck and a Ford pickup truck collided Friday afternoon on U.S. 85 in southern Weld County, but no one was injured.

The crash, which happened about 4:20 p.m. in near U.S. 85 and Weld County Road 20 caused authorities to closed southbound U.S. 85 north of Fort Lupton for about an hour following a traffic crash.

Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis said officers still were on the scene late Friday and investigating so he didn’t immediately know how the crash happened. However, he said at some point during the crash, the semi, which was northbound, went through the wire cable rails in the center of the highway and crossed into the southbound lanes. He said the road was closed while Colorado Department of Transportation crews repaired the damage.

“Fortunately, everybody got lucky and there were no injuries,” Lewis said.
