Berlin man crashes motorcycle for second time, dies – Meriden Record

On July 14, David Cardinale, 22, lost control of his Yamaha motorcycle and crashed into the metal guide rail on the left-hand side of Route I-84, according to the state police accident summary.

Cardinale, of 79 Watch Hill Road, had traveled one fifth of a mile past exit 39A in Farmington when he crashed his bike. Despite wearing a helmet, the collision killed Cardinale. His bike, a 2012 Yamaha YZF-R1, was totaled.

When Cardinale crashed of his motorcycle for the second time, Carl Oberg was not there to save him.

In 2011, Cardinale was in another motorcycle accident, this time, along Route 9. According to the News Times, a paper out of Danbury, Carl Oberg, director of the minor football league Western Connecticut Milita, witnessed Cardinale crash. Oberg stopped and applied a tourniquet to Cardinale’s heavily damaged left leg.

The News Times reported if Oberg hadn’t stopped, Cardinale would have died in four minutes. Cardinale’s left leg was later amputated.
