4 Killed In Wichita Traffic Accident

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE)– Several bouquets of flowers now blow in the wind where a fiery crash occurred Saturday night that left four dead and another injured.

Friends and family of some of the victims spoke with KAKE News and shared more about what they say were the circumstances leading up to the crash.

They say four women had hired a designated driver service after an afternoon of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

They say three of those women, along with the driver, died in the crash. The fourth woman was pulled from the burning car by a Wichita Police officer.

Police did not release their names Sunday pending notification of family members.

Among those killed, a popular bartender for the Wichita bar Our Fantasy Complex.

Family members who visited the crash scene Sunday say another of those killed had just lost her father earlier this week. The sister of Sara Smith told us by phone that her family is struggling with two tragic losses in one week and having to cover the costs of two burials.

“Sara was a beautiful free spirit and the life of our family. She was two months shy of graduation from WSU as a Dental Hygienist,” she wrote on a donation page set up for the family. “Sara was such a loving wonderful person, she would do anything for anyone, and was the glue of the family during tough times.”

Members of the softball community also are suffering the loss. They say one of the other women killed was a mother of a young child. They are working to organize a memorial tournament in her honor.

Police declined to provide any new information Sunday. They are expected to release more information Monday morning at their regularly-scheduled briefing.

Police say speed appears to be a factor, but the crash remains under investigation.
