1 Dead After Head-On Crash On C-470, Police Search For Driver

LONE TREE, Colo. (CBS4) – Police in the southern part of the Denver metro area are searching for the driver of a car that was involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash early Thursday morning on C-470.

The crash happened just west of the Interstate 25 interchange in Lone Tree in the eastbound lanes of the highway. Emergency crews responded to the scene just after 3 a.m.

Police said their initial investigation showed that a white sedan was traveling westbound and crossed over into the eastbound lanes and crashed head on into an SUV.

The driver of the SUV was killed. So far police haven’t provided that person’s name or age.

Lakewood police told CBS4 a Lakewood resident alerted them just before 5 a.m. that the sedan was stolen.

Police said there were reports that there were two people in the sedan, but so far they haven’t been unable to locate them.

The eastbound lanes of C-470 were closed for more than five hours after the crash, and the closure resulted in long backups during the morning commute.
